About Your Host

Lieutenant Colonel (Ret.) Joanne Rose Ruggeri, DNP, FNP-BC is a rural healthcare leader, seasoned clinician, and mission-driven innovator committed to transforming how care is delivered in remote and underserved communities. With nearly four decades of nursing experience and more than 28 years of distinguished service in the United States Air Force Nurse Corps, Dr. Ruggeri’s leadership reflects a deep commitment to service, resilience, and team-based care. During her military career, she held senior roles including Medical Group SquadronCommander, Chief Nurse Executive Director of Medical Management, and Family Nurse Practitioner in both domestic and international settings-bringing strategic oversight and operational excellence to complex healthcare environments.

Dr. Ruggeri’s approach to healthcare is deeply rooted in her military experience, where adaptability, precision, and a mission-focused mindset guided care delivery across challenging and resource-constrained settings. This foundation informs her work today in rural health transformation, where she champions integrated, human-centered systems, workforce sustainability, and practical technology solutions. She leverages telemedicine and workflow-aligned electronic health record tools such as Practice Better to improve access, reduce administrative burden, and support continuity of care.

As the founder of a virtual healthcare practice serving military families, veterans, and Alaskan communities, Dr. Ruggeri embraces a holistic model of care that addresses physical, mental, and functional health needs. Her work connects frontline clinical insight with system-level strategy advancing sustainable models that reflect the realities of rural practice and improve outcomes for patients and care teams alike
